Letter in the cup

A letter is a flat quadrangle with sharp edges, lying in the grounds — news traveling toward you. It most often changes a plan: an invitation, an answer you've long waited for, a voice from far away. Clean and light in the middle, the letter brings welcome news; darkened or partly covered, it arrives late or incomplete, so it's worth waiting for the full text.

Position changes the tone: nearer the rim speaks of what is close, nearer the bottom of what is further off; a clearer shape speaks louder than a faint one.
