Bridge in the cup

A bridge is recognized in the cup by an arch thrown across an empty space: two banks that until yesterday stood apart. It hints at reconciliation, mediation, a passage from one phase to another — sometimes a person who connects you to a world you wouldn't have entered on your own. A full, solid arch speaks of support; a thin one, of a crossing that calls for care.

Position changes the tone: nearer the rim speaks of what is close, nearer the bottom of what is further off; a clearer shape speaks louder than a faint one.
